Cattle Yards

Not every farm is the same. But with 8 years building them we’ve found cattle yards fit within two camps: Commercial or Maxxus.

It makes it seamless when you've got good people that respond and are agile.

We found the whole service very dynamic and cohesive from site design and plans to timely communication to the end result.

We love the forcing circle. We think the bent gates are really good now we've worked with them. We love the fact that we know they're safe.

I'd say there's obviously been some good feedback from whoever had yards in the past.

Steel Over Timber

Comparing steel and timber is commonplace when purchasing or constructing a new set of yards. Below are a few key reasons why we firmly believe that investing in steel yards is the superior choice.

Value retention

A solid set of hot dipped steel yards will hold their value for a long time. Hot dipped steel yards maintain their condition over time and therefore their value.

01

Future scaleability

Due to the value retention aspect of an investment in steel yards, they're a very attractive second hand proposition. If they're sold with a property sale, they add real value to the next user.

02

Easier to erect

Once you've got your pad down, installing your yards is straightforward and intuitive. For our Maxxus yards, typically we provide a colour coded plan and an assembly guide for installation. However our contractors can install Maxxus yards if requested. For Commercial yards, our installation teams will manage this for you to ensure your asset is primed for ultimate use.

03

Minimal maintenance

Once your yard is up, there's nothing to worry about. All steel is hot dipped galvanised to last! Apart from minor maintenance like greasing slam latches, steel yards require little maintenance.

04

Flexibility of change

Flexibility of change presents a strong case for going steel over timber. You're not confined by your original designs. Completely modular in nature.

05

Superior strength

Onefarm yards use a stronger steel profile than others in the market with thicker steel, meaning our panels and gates are often up to 15% stronger than our competitors. Superior strength and longevity.

06

Why Choose a
Onefarm Yard

Explore the key reasons to go for a Onefarm yard for your farm. Instead of trying to sell why we are better, read through some of the facts below and make your own decision.

01

Deep Rail Profile

When cattle are putting pressure on yards, it is lateral pressure. For this reason our cattle rail is 47mm deep compared to the more common 40-42mm depth.

02

Rattle Free

Our rattle free clamp system reduces annoying noise in the yard and ensures a tight hold between panels and gates compared with loose fitting pins and bolts that others use.

03

Overhead Bracing

We incorporate overhead bracing in all yard sections with junctions near 90 degrees, ensuring enhanced rigidity and strength. This bracing is crucial for preserving the structural integrity of the yard.

04

Hot Dipped Galvanising

All steel is Hot Dipped Galvanised after welding to NZAS standards keeping yards rust free for life.

05

10 Year Warranty on Galvanising

All Hot Dipped Galvanised Steel comes with a 10 year warranty.

06

Rail Bend Warranty

If any panels bend through sideways movement we’ll replace free of charge.

Stress Free Stock Flow

Our yards use curved races and round forcing pens

Curved races are superior to straight ones because cattle instinctively tend to return in the direction they came from. Our designs encourage cattle to turn and move, resulting in an improved overall flow.

We calculate the right sizes for your specific needs

As part of the consultation process we'll get a good feel for your requirements within the yards. From there we can select one of our proven designs and make any necessary changes.

We use visual barriers in high intensity areas

Stock flow can get congested when the animals are seeing too much of the operator any any external distractions such as trucks outside the yards. With our visual barriers, cattle are more relaxed and move through the race and forcing pen faster.

Cattle must see somewhere to go or they're likely to hesitate

We make sure our designs have the right race curvature. Cattle must be able to see at least two cattle ahead, or else they won’t move smoothly through the race. This is why we avoid any sharp bends to ensure no ‘stock traps’ are created.
